Why Phitsanulok
A real Thai city, without the crowds
Phitsanulok sits about halfway between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Few tourists stop here, so prices are local and daily life is Thai. On your rest day, the old capital of Sukhothai is about an hour away, and the city's own Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat holds one of the most revered Buddha images in the country.
